Swedish Massage

The Benefits

Swedish (or classic) massage is often the most sought-after massage because it addresses a wide range of dysfunctions for most people (for example, the stiffness you feel in your neck from your computer or mobile phone). The ultimate goal of a Swedish massage is to relax the entire body by increasing blood and oxygen circulation, while simultaneously reducing muscle toxins or tension.

The Movements

There are five basic movements used in a Swedish massage: effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading of the muscles), friction (circular rubbing movements), tapotement (rapid tapping), and vibration (rapid shaking of certain muscles). Although pressure can be adjusted according to the client’s preferences, Swedish massage generally involves gentle strokes and is often combined with light stretching and aromatherapy.
